The integrity of data is a critical component of information security. The term "data integrity" refers to the quality and consistency of data held in a database, data warehouse, or other structure in its widest sense. Data Integrity is a word that may be used to describe a state, a process, or a function — and it is frequently used as a substitution for "data quality."

There are a minimum set of criteria that information must satisfied in order to be qualified as “integrity data”:

Completeness:

All the data should represent all dimensionality of the reality.

Accuracy:

after all data is complete, the information should correspond to reality.

Frequency:

If the data is complete and correct, but it is not updated, then the information integrity is compromised.

Security:

Logical and physical access should be established and monitored in order to safeguard information from unauthorized modification, elimination or obtention.
